In order to have the best chances in online dating, communication must be open and articulate, and contain certain qualities.

Once initial interest has been expressed, what are the best ways of increasing interest through online dating? Once initial interest has been established, it must be increased through effective communication. This means that letters, especially the first couple, must be well written and contain quality content.

Make Letters Easy to Read

Firstly, letters should be written with correct spelling and proper grammar. Yes, a spell checker is useful! Despite the fact that spell checkers can miss some things, it is better than not having it and it can catch a lot of typing errors. Compose letters in a word processor. And read them at least two times through before sending them. This ensures that the letter writer is able to check for grammatical errors as well as words that a spell checker can miss.

Do not use cutesy abbreviations, such as those used in text messaging. Not everyone understands them, for one. And for another, they are harder to read than normal, full text messages. Full text also shows more care, because it leaves the impression that it takes more time. If the letter takes more time and contains more content, then it demonstrates more interest and care. That can be attractive, too!

What Content is Good in Follow Up Letters?

Letters must contain genuine content about life, interests, beliefs, and most importantly, humour!

Yes, humour!

Begin by relating to content in the other person’s profile – mention interests or activities that are listed. How can these be related to? Is there a gentle way to tease about anything in the profile? Teasing with gentle humour is a wonderful to relate to someone; it shows self confidence, genuine interest, and intelligence. For some people there is nothing more attractive that confidence and intelligence.

Find something that may be out of place or that particularly stands out in the other person’s profile or an earlier letter. It could be something in a picture, a comment that as made, or even an inconsistency or typo in the profile. Tease about it! But also mention something cool or interesting that could be related to it, either directly or indirectly. One or two sentences that show humour in a letter can be sufficient. So the rest of the letter should be filled with quality content.

Tell stories and include at least a few sentences relating to interests and activities. People want to know that there are commonalities in these things. If both enjoy biking, for example, tell a story about an interesting bike trip or the joys and trials of bike maintenance. Don’t be boring! Whenever possible, make it fun and humorous. And making fun of one’s self is one great way to show confidence while displaying that humour. It’s not necessary, but it does help!

Talk about family and friends. People want to see that there is a social and caring aspect to any potential partner – this goes across genders. Anyone who is genuinely interested in developing a relationship will want to know that the person on the other end is not a recluse or misfit. And everyone wants to know that the other person will fit in during social events.

Overall, the intent is to show that the best parts of oneself. And to develop any relationship takes open communication, fun, and confidence. And that is the intention of writing these letters!
