Do you wish more guys would respond to your online ad? Correcting these common errors will get your profile in tip-top shape.

While online dating can be a great way for women to manage their dating lives, it can also be extremely disappointing when their inbox remains empty. If the last message you received was from the system administrator, maybe it’s time to see if your online profile contains any of these no-no’s.

Faux Pas: Negative or Defensive Talk

  • Damage: No one likes a downer.

  • Women who have been hurt in the past sometimes make the mistake of lamenting in their ad about life, their previous relationships, or the fact that they don’t think there are any good men out there. Never waste precious space in your profile by talking about what you don’t want in a man. Focus on what you do want. If you come across a guy that isn’t quite up to par, don’t agree to meet him out or go on a coffee date.
Faux Pas: Not Posting a Photo

  • Damage: Makes men think you’ve got something to hide.

  • Anytime there is a lack of information on a profile, it causes online daters to fill in the blanks themselves. One of the common mistakes men make in the their profiles is misinterpreting a woman’s size, and failing to show them what you really look like only plays into this gaffe. Have the confidence to place a recent photo so men will have a visual image to go along with the description.
Faux Pas: Unrealistic Income Range

  • Damage: Gives the impression you’re only out for big bucks.

  • Most women want to find a nice guy who will treat them right. In their mind, that also means being financially responsible. However, if the income range you list for your ideal mate is too high or restrictive, it will turn off even the most successful of men. Like women, men want someone to love and appreciate them based on who they really are, without superficial qualifications.
Faux Pas: Mentioning Marriage or Babies

  • Damage: Causes even the most relationship minded guys to move on to the next profile.

  • Men and women really are on the same page when it comes to online dating. Most people just want to meet someone great to start a serious relationship with. However, women that mention marriage or children in their online ad are a red flag for men. Guys want to believe you’re looking for the right someone, not just any old person that comes along. Instead, write your ad so it reflects the qualities you want in a man. That way, you’ll get the benefit of meeting a lot of great guys before deciding which of them is the right one for you.
